Living like we are worthy

[5] This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. [6] So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth.

This passage addresses the nature of God and the integrity of a believer’s claim to fellowship with him. God is light. He is honest, trustworthy, and just at all times. There is no darkness in him at all, no evil or injustice. As humans, we all fall short of the benchmark Jesus set for us. You don’t have to be perfect before you say, “I’m in close fellowship with God,” but you shouldn’t still be pursuing life’s sinful pursuits when no one is looking and saying you have a close fellowship with God when they are. I have definitely fallen short and am grateful for God’s patience. One of my favorite verses is from Paul to Timothy.

1 Timothy 1:15 NLT
[15] This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them all.
