I have heard that politically speaking generation x tends to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative. That is me to a tee. Socially my stance is you be you. I respect everyone for our similarities and our differences. Everyone has both we just need to focus on the former not the latter. Focus on what brings us together instead of what divides us. Social conservatives tend to be set in their ways and fear change whether it’s better for us or not. I feel there is always room to improve. However, I vote with my wallet. Here in the U.S., we always pay more for the things we need when a democrat wins the white house.
We grew up in a time of increasing multiculturism, so we have a strong commitment to equality and social justice. We also grew up in a time of economic uncertainty, with high inflation rates and economic recession in the 70’s and 80’s. The experience instilled a sense of financial caution and a desire for stability and security. The gas shortage of the 70’s is a big crisis that comes to mind, but I was born right when it happened, so I don’t remember that.
Share your thoughts on growing up gen x in the comments. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
